The Night Terror

The lights flickered, and the hum of the lights cut through the silence. A growl echoed down the alley. James ran as fast as he could. “Ready or not.....Here I come...” A deep raspy voice called. James turned the corner and the alley came to a dead end. He turned to run, but froze in fear. A tall, dark and shadowy entity blocked his path. “You’ve done some bad things, James....” Said the entity. James backed up against the wall, and the wall crumbled behind him. He fell back, as the shadows crept along the walls. James got up and ran. James looked back, but what that thing was, it was gone. James stopped, and bumped into something cold, and solid. Was it a wall? No. What ever it was, shadows curled and billowed around it. James looked up to the creature’s hollow face. It growled at him. “You hurt that boy today.” Said the creature. “Get out of my head!” Yelled James as he ran the other way. “You can’t run away.” Echoed the darkened voice. The creature once again appeared in front of him. “This is my dream!” James cried out. “But this is my world.” He warned. James saw a sword by the wall, and ran to it. It was a white gleaming sword. James grabs the sword and swings it at the creature. The creature grows long silver, jagged talons and deflects the sword easily. The creature becomes an intangible black wisp. The entity appears behind James, and goes to impale him. James wakes to the sound of thunder. He sits up and looks around. He is in his bedroom. He breathes a sigh of relief. He looks back up, and a shadow appears on his bed from his window. The sound of glass being scratched pierces the silence. James looks at the window in fear. “Ready or not.....Here I come....”

Three Tips For Making a Stopmotion

1. Make sure that you maintain the lighting and try and keep it the same.

2. Make little movements for every picture that you take. Try to make it as smooth as possible and not too choppy.

3. Plan it before you start shooting. Make a storyboard so you have an idea of what you are going to do before you actually do it. It will make the shooting process a lot easier.

30 Second Short Film

Three Stopmotions That I Like

Stopmotion is a filming technique in which objects (such as clay models) are photographed in a series of slightly different positions so that the objects seem to move.

I like this stopmotion because I find it interesting and cool because they used post-it notes as their main material/idea.

My plan for the 30 second short film was to make it comical and funny, and to make it different from what you would usually see in a video. My piece of digital art is about someone (Brandon) who is acting strange and decides to eat a hamburger. His friend (Jake) comes up to him and asks him what he's doing. Brandon then replies with "I'm eating a burger."

My idea for the GIF on the right was to make a character who is brainstorming or trying to think of ideas and then he finally gets an idea. I decided to take some pictures off of google images, as well as drawing things in photoshop to create the character. I also had to change the position of the objects each time I changed the frame in order to create the GIF. I think that it turned out better than I expected it to because it was my first time making a GIF.

I like this stopmotion because they used clay and they made it very smooth looking and realistic. They also incorporated themself into the video by interacting with the objects.

I thought this stopmotion was good because they used a whiteboard and a marker as their main objects in the video. I thought this was cool because you don't see this too often and it is probably challenging to do for it to look smooth and real.
